Our Philosophy
One Harbor Church takes seriously the obligation it has to provide assistance and care to those experiencing financial hardship within the local community (in or out of our church body), and in certain circumstances, abroad. One Harbor Church also believes in the need to support church leaders and church plants.
The Church has a responsibility to help those who are hurting and/or in need, especially those who are of the household of faith (Galatians 6:10).
Financial aid is one of many ways in which the Church serves the community, and should be provided in a way that is helpful to the development of individuals in the context of the Gospel, and in a way that reinforces Biblical responsibility and a heart of stewardship for both those giving and those receiving (Leviticus 19:9-10).
We believe that poverty is caused by broken relationships with God, self, others, and the rest of creation. The only way poverty can be alleviated is the restoration of those relationships through the work of Jesus Christ on the cross. (Colossians 1:15-20; Isa. 58:1-3, 5-10)
